The website of ISRA Foundation: Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli issued a statement in which he expressed his resentment over the insulting remarks made by the President of the United States against Pope Leo XIV, the leader of the world’s Catholics, and emphasized the need for a proper response to such heinous acts by the Christian community and religious leaders around the world regarding.
His eminence stated: “Apologies must be made for the insult directed at his eminence, the Pope, the leader of the Catholic world.” Stating that that Jesus Christ (̒a) is one of the great Arch-prophets and a sign sent to humanity by God, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli added: “The Holy Quran venerates and extols Jesus (̒a) and his mother Mary (̒a). Jesus (̒a) and his mother Mary (̒a) are Divinely-sent signs for the whole of mankind and as such, they are both respected and honored by all humanity. Therefore, it necessary that everyone honor and revere these sacred figures.”
His eminence then noted: “The fact that the Quran states regarding the Prophet Noah “Peace be upon Noah in all the nations,” and regarding the Prophet Muhammad, “ [he is] a mercy to all nations,” and the fact that it makes similar venerating remarks regarding Mary and her son Jesus, indicates that all people are obliged to show humility before these sacred and pure souls and respect them. By extension, anyone who is the religious leader of the religions of these prophets also deserves respect and must be venerated. Therefore, not only the followers of Jesus Christ (̒a), but allthe followers of other religions and prophets must also respect them.
Ayatollah Javadi Amoli further continued and stated: “The Holy Quran refers to what Jesus Christ (̒a) offered humanity as “wisdom”: “I have come to you with wisdom.” Such bestowal of wisdom means that the intellectuals and intellectual and
scientific centers of every society, including religious seminaries, universities, and cultural foundations, should possess sound, righteous and realistic thought and also wise, appropriate, and righteous motivation for action.”
His eminence also added: “Unfortunately, the President of the United States, who possesses neither sound thought nor righteous motivation, and whose intellectualand practical conduct lack both soundness and righteousness, has boldly insulted and disrespected the leader of the Catholics world, a person whose sanctity is considered inviolable. In response to this heinous act, Christians in general, and Catholics and prominent figures within the United States in particular, must severely condemn this heinous act, and attempt to correct the one who uttered such
words, though he is not one who can be corrected!”
His eminence then noted: “Cooperating with Israel, the President of the UnitedStates has committed a clear and grave injustice against Iran, a country with a long history in culture, religion, and education. They attacked not only military personnel In Iran, but also civilians, women and children, cultural figures, artists, and school boys and girls in the Minab school, who were, in the true sense of the word,
“innocent”. By martyring these beloved individuals, their families and survivors were left in deep grief and sorrow. Any tragedy of this kind is heartrending and heartbreaking.”
Ayatollah Javadi Amoli then stated: “In the face of such atrocities and crimes committed by Trump and others like him, the stances taken by his eminence, thePope, against these appalling crimes are truly valuable, and no one should object to such wise stances and counsel offered as guidance.”
